We're in Northamptonshire on the 5th of March running a Creative Business Day these popular and very well received days are designed to help artists, makers and all creative practitioners identify and develop key aspects of their creative business.

The workshop’s suitable for people at all career stages and will works for people that have just started out as well as more mature practitioners.

This day has been specially developed for The Water Tower, the beautiful home and creative workspace of Rosalind Stoddart, Independent Cultural Engineer & Artist.

The Water Tower was shortlisted in 2011 for the Architects Journal Award for Best Project under £250,000 – the internal staircase was moved outside of the Tower to provide living accommodation in the water tower, releasing the remaining building for various uses. Seen as a sculptural addition, the staircase is a black monolith, inspired by the work of American artist Richard Serra.

Rosalind’s practice has established her as a major contributor and influence on the visual arts scene in Northamptonshire and beyond. She describes herself as an Independent Cultural Engineer – engineering connections between people to create new cultural events and projects. This work to date has resulted in her commissioning projects with jazz singers, storytellers, printmakers, filmmakers and yoga practitioner.

Fermynwoods Contemporary Art started as a gallery that Rosalind curated and ran within her own home for twelve years and became a highly regarded gallery. The project has now moved off-site and Rosalind has been able to rearrange the space, relocating her fully equipped print studio - complete with etching press, into a well appointed outbuilding, and turning the vacated studio into a yoga space. These spaces can be hired, and Rosalind has recently hosted two 2-week print residencies in the print space.

We’ll be working on the ground floor with access the gardens during breaks. The fantastic garden is a site for permanent sculpture and temporary installations, and an ever-changing plethora of bird life!

You can find out more or book a place on this friendly and sociable creative business day here.

Finally, thank you Rosalind – we’re looking forward to it!

A last minute change of plan for the 'Getting Published in a Nutshell' course Pete was due to run in Derbyshire for the lovely Barefoot Coaching meant that we ran the course at The Refectory Table base.

Barefoot Coaching is where Pete trained to get his Post Grad Certificate in Business & Personal coaching. Kim Morgan, the creator of Barefoot, and her team are inspirational and we are flattered that they were happy to send their course participants to us.

Pete is the author of 'Make Your Creativity Pay', this experience, plus having coached others to realise their own publications means that Pete was in a good position to develop and run this innovative one-day course.

Pete showed, step by step, how to take an idea, develop it into a manuscript, and then publish on Kindle and hard copy.

The day included discusion and pointers about the whole process – from writing to publishing, how to identify what you can do yourself, and what you will need help with, exploring the pros and cons of both electronic and print publishing, marketing and selling – via Amazon, on your own website, using social media, and through affiliate programmes and how to use your book to establish credibility and boost your profile.

It was a good and productive day, punctuated with a good lunch and our 'crumbhuddle' mid afternoon break with cake.

Here's the feeback

'A lovely relaxed way to learn and some great people'

'Wonderful, as a Coelliac it was great to be able to eat everything'

'If you have an idea fo a book but worry about how to get it published this will demystify the process'

'Go - it's well worth it!'

'This is a really valuable day if you are considering writing a book in the near or distant future'

If you'd like more information about this course, or to be notified direct next time we set dates for it - please just get in touch here or by email -

Here’s some feedback from our recent 2012 courses –

Fascinating session answering a lot of questions that I have had about social media for years - good food too.

Chris Tribe, Furniture Maker

An open-minded event for anyone working in any field. It was engaging & worthwhile and totally recommended.

Janet Middleton Owner/Director of Starchild baby Shoes

A very valuable day & worthwhile course. I came away with solid areas that I need to work on & with the advice & information given I know I can now achieve them.

Rachael Pinks, Artist

Bloody Amazing. Vibrant & dynamic way of re-booting your business. Worth heaps more than I paid.

Jo Ludbrook, Exotic Cushion Maker

An engaging & thought-provoking day. Left me with a range of tools & techniques that I could utilize with all groups I currently teach.

Sarah Hancox, FE lecturer in Design & Maker

A very relaxed way to consider your business life & career - whilst engaging with like-minded folk.

Dionne Swift, Textile Artist

This event gave me the opportunity I needed to talk about my business and myself in a very safe & relaxed environment.

A great days training, really tailored to the needs of people attending. Useful for work & professional development.

Emma Watson, freelance Arts Education consultant

Having attended the course, I have actioned many points and have had that illusive paradigm shift I needed. The day was great but the after burn is fantastic.
